Xenogears?

I know it's not a FF game, but it is a Squaresoft game. There's a discussion of Xenogears as well as Xenosaga (from Namco) over at xenosaga.tribe.net if anyone is interested. I'd certainly like to hear what some avid FF fans think.

I used to have this game. I liked it and all, but I couldn't beat the game. I had to watch my cousin do it, because he learned from my mistake of not using Chu-chu enough to level him/her/it(?) up.

I had part one of Xenosaga...I have to say, I didn't really like it. I mean, the storyline was interesting and the graphics were good, but I didn't particuarly care for the general gameplay... It seemed like everything was easy until I got up into the Nephilim or whatever it was called, the space station, and suddenly, I was getting my butt kicked by everything and I couldn't retreat to level up and come back...After a while I kind of just lost interest in the game and traded it at EB for money off something else...though at this point and time I do kind of regret trading it in...maybe I passed judgement on it too soon...but maybe I'll pick it up again when the second one comes down to 20 bucks.

Xenogears, on the other hand...I borrowed that from a friend years ago...I thought it was a great game, great storyline, it was great and anime-ish, the battlesystem was cool..

I played this game, it was very fun, I got stuck in the Air level (wasn't high enough in leve and did not have a backup Save) but I give it very High Marks.

hey, if you liked it, come join the tribe ( xenosaga.tribe.net ) and give us your thoughts on the aspects we've been discussing. you're on most of the same tribes I'm on anyway. ;) you know you want *nudge nudge*

I'll admit that the gameplay of Episode I definitely wasn't what it could have been. My biggest complaint was that there wasn't much of an opportunity to just run around and level up. Nor, as you pointed out, was there a great need to.

I haven't played it yet, but from what I've heard Episode II improves on the gameplay signifigantly. But what has drawn me to the series so much has been the story. There's so much going on and the philosophical and religious aspects get rather deep.
